An Instructor who is now thinking will it be of benefit or just a mOney making scheme for the DSA

Answer
Hi Nigel

You old cynic ;0) DSA have a money-making scam?

Personally, I don't know of anyone who is going for this. RoSPA Diploma holders (like me) were guaranteed "grandfather" rights, but then they went and included RoSPA Golds as well - no instructor training involved, so that kind of devalues the Diploma!

Yet, IAM Observers who have some limited "instructor" training albeit they don't train, just observe, are not included in that.

It's a mess. It's too expensive to do if it's not mandatory. Since most people in the industry have never heard of the PTT register, nevermind potential students, I don't see having it as a particular value in attracting customers.

Mike Waite summed it up best at one time when he said in as many words, "Stuff the lot of them. As an ex-police instructor, why join in other people's standards when you already know you are the best!"

For non-ex-police riders seeking recognition as PTTs it's difficult, but I still think the RoSPA Diploma is the best way to go in validating your level. You can't turn up and do the week's "course" as it is more of a validation than a course. You must have had some previous advanced riding standard above IAM, probably RoSPA Gold AND some experience in training, presentation and giving feedback to be able to pass, nevermind get the Merit or Distinction.

e-mail me directly if you want more on this or want to work towards RoSPA Gold/Diploma with help.
