Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Stopping in a turn, speed limit, intersections

Question
The road by my house curves about 90 degrees.  Speed limit is 45 mph.  A little bit less than 3/4 through the curve is a stop light.  It's typical to enter the turn on green light and find that the light changed while you still approaching the stop light.  What strategy would you recommend to deal with a situation like this?

Answer
My strategy would be to position myself and set up a new line through the turn that allows me to approach the light as straight as possible. For example, you're leaned over to the right and you see the light go yellow. Quickly let the bike run to the outside of the lane, then turn harder right so you're pointed more toward the light. Once you have a better approach line, start straightening up the bike while you apply the brakes. The more straight up and down you are, the more you can brake. Plan on getting quickly down to about 5 mph and finally straighten, square, and stop.

I hope that's clear. It's also wise to assume that the light will change, and prepare for it, and then if the light remains green, you've got no worries...other than the typical worries you have in everyday intersections.
