Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: filtering, grey area, motorways

Is it legal for m/bikes to filter through traffic.
I realise this involves undertaking vehicles and in the event of an accident, how would insurers view this.

Before I can answer accurately, I need to know where in the world you are riding. In many US states it is apparently not legal. In the UK it is not specifically legislated against (except possibly on motorways), although you could find yourself being done for other offences in the event of an accident resulting from it. It is a grey area and one I'm very interested in and have written about before.
