Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Suzuki GSX-F Katana Problem, suzuki vz800 marauder, suzuki katana 750

Question
its a pretty general question, besides broken wires (i checked and found none broken) i have a 98 suzuki katana 750 and the coil that controls 1 and 2 plugs is getting no power, (feed wires to coil) but then i tested plugs 3 and 4 and it shows 12.2 to 12.4 showing, would this be a cdi problem? i dont want to replace something i dont need to, but my dad has a Suzuki vz800 marauder that was having a cdi problem....so is this a common suzuki problem?

any thing vaugue will help as a i have a shop manual and a fair amount of experience/know how

but why would it lose voltage to only one coil? id kinda just like to know where to strike first (maybe just key switch bad?)

any info helps

thanks
john

Answer
I'd check the wires from the CDI to the coils, and from the pick-up coils to the CDI.  You could simply use a jumper wire to check these.

Otherwise, it's unusual for the CDI to only fail one set of coils.  Also, the kill switch or ignition is unlikey as it powers a system, not a single component.
