If I had $3500 to buy a bike to tour Europe on, I'd probably get a used KLR 650 dual sport. That's what I would get, and by that I mean that is my preference, and I have no idea what kind of riding you want to do over there. Fast? Some off-road? Carrying a passenger and gear? A KLR will do those things, while "fast" is kind of subjective.

Buying a bike there is also a good idea, since that way you don't have to ship it there or back. Most of the models here are also available over there, plus they get some cool stuff we don't get in the US (if that is where you are).

I'm sure if you walked off the plane with $3500, you could find a bike in a day no problem.
