Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Rejetting, reno nv, fuel valve

Question
I bought a 1999 yz250 (2 stroke) that was jetted for ~6,000ft. (reno, NV) and I wan't to change it to 1,000ft.  I haven't been able to find any step by step instructions online, but everything I have read says you just shut off the fuel valve take off the carburetor and the jet is right there piece of cake.  Is this true?

Thank you

Answer
Kevin,

Yep, that's pretty close. That's the nice thing about dirtbikes, they are still real simple to work on. But be sure to get some instructions on what to rejet and what size new jets you'll need to get the elevation correct for it. A Yamaha mechanic should be able to help you or give you some solid tips.

But it should be pretty easy to do. Drain the carb after shutting the fuel off, THEN take the carb off, and it's probably not a good idea to smoke while working with fuel, just in case it slipped your mind...
