Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: break in service, yamaha yzf r6, maximum longevity

Question
i have a 2005 yamaha yzf r6 and it has 780 miles on it...is it bad for a motorcycle if kept ridden well exceed the 600 miles break-in service?

Answer
Jon,

Thanks for the question.

You should follow Yamaha's service schedule pretty closely in order to break in your bike correctly so you get maximum performance and maximum longevity out of it.

Going 180 miles over the first service is not terrible, but I'd get it back in there and have the service done as soon as you can.

Mostly, the oil and filter needs to be changed and the engine checked to make sure everything is bedding in correctly.

I'd get it to a dealer sooner rather than later.

Take care of it!
