Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: motorcycle laws, ohio dept of public safety, motorcycle endorsement

Question
I live in Ohio and have been riding for 45 years. Now I ride a 3 wheeler. No one can give me the law regarding 3 wheel endorsments, not even the law enforcers. Do I need a 3wheel endorcment if I already a motorcyle endorsment? or where do I find the law on this?

Answer
It's not common for law enforcement, or even the DMV/DOT/DPS employees to know stuff like this. Motorcycles are only about 3% of all the vehicles on the road, and 3-wheelers only a fraction of that. This sort of question is not often asked.

For complete clarification, you should contact the Ohio Dept of Public Safety or Transportation or Driver and Vehicle Services to get the final answer, but I have never heard of any state requiring a licensed motorcyclist to also have a special endorsement for 3-wheelers.

However, I would guess that many states do require drivers without a motorcycle endorsement to have some sort of 3-W license. In Minnesota it's a "motorycle endorsement--3 wheel only." If a person started on a 3-W and decided to move to a 2-W motorcycle, they'd have to take another test.
