Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: STRAIGHT-UP KICKSTAND, motorcycle links, touring bikes

Question
Hi Steve

I'm looking for a kick stand that when engaged sits straight up. You step on the stand and it brings down two (2) straight arm on either sidw of the bike and you pull back on the handle bars and pull the bike backwards and this kick stand becomes engaged.

The bike sits straight up and doesn't lean like the factory one that on my Harley.

STEVE: WHERE ON EARTH CAN I BUY ONE OF THESE ?

THANK YOU STEVE
GOD BLESS

Answer
Hi Ray

Yes, and the worst thing about the side stand on the Harley is that it is inclined to fold back up as you are about to lower the bike onto it!

I have never seen a centre stand that you described for a Harley - not an official or even a pirate part. I thing the reason is simple. Generally Harley's are too heavy for this type of stand. Even a 200kg bike is difficult to raise onto a centre stand and I am under the impression that most Harley's are in excess this.

This raises the question - does the Gold Wing or other big touring bikes have centre stands? I have never noticed to be honest.

Good luck in your search. Here are some websites you can try

www.dansmc.com (email the webmaster of this site - he is very technical!)
