Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Mileage, correct tyre pressure, fuel air mixture

Question
Can you tell me some general suggestions for getting better mileage ? Im getting only 35 kmpl on yamaha rxg (1996 make).

Answer
Hi Biju,
Thanks for writing to me. The fuel efficiency you're getting is not too bad for an RXG. However, you can try and get a few more kmpl (maybe 38 - 40 kmpl.).

1) Get your carburetor tuned for fuel efficiency. This is done by making the fuel-air mixture a little leaner.

2) Fuel efficiency has a lot to do with the way you ride. A smoother style helps you get more efficiency. Try and not to accelerate very hard. Also, maintain a constant speed of about 40-50 km/h.

3) Maintain correct tyre pressure.

4) Change to a higher gear when the bike is in the mid-range of the rev band (around 300-400 rpm)

Try these and get back to me.
Ride Safe,
Anil
