Used Cars: deq oregon

ok so we bought a car 2 days ago and the check engine light came on, it has not gone through DEQ and I have not yet notified the dealer because it sounds like they wipe it clean get you tested and then the light comes right back on.  What should I do? I believe they are required to fix the problem so it passes DEQ but I want to make sure they actually fix it and not just clear the codes?  Any advise would be great

Find out what the codes are before you take it back to the dealer ...you can do that by taking it to any Baxter Auto Parts or Napa Auto Parts by going in to the store and asking one of them to read your codes...then armed with what the problem really is and then take it to the dealer. Then you can compare what they tell you the problem is and what you know it is. I am curious who the dealer is because I am also in Oregon ...if you want to tell me I may be able to exert some pressure on your behalf or at least give you the low down on who you are dealing with
