Used Cars: Buying and selling autos, dodge ram 1500, city of northampton

Hi,

My wife and I are looking to sell our 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck and buy a 1997 Honda Civic DX sedan. We no longer need the truck and would like to buy a cheap economical car for our 18 year old son. Both vehicles have low mileage for their age.  Our truck has 75,000 miles and the Civic (for sale in our neighborhood) has about 72,000 miles.  Both vehicles would be sold to a private party (no auto dealers/trade in involved)and are located in the city of Northampton, MA. Details on truck:  Good to Excellent condition,4x2 (rear wheel drive of course)6 cylinder automatic w/OD, standard cab, long (8') bed, a/c, flip-up center console, manual windows/locks,am-fm stereo w/single cd. Overall, steel wheels. A pretty basic full-size truck.  Details on Civic: Fair to Good condition 4 cyl. auto., no a/c, manual windows/lock, am-fm stereo.  Our question is this, what is a reasonable price that we can expect to sell our truck for?  And, what is a reasonable price we should be able to buy the Civic for? Well vehicle market values are different in different areas of the country.
You can uses sources such as nadaguides.com or kbb.com to get a better feel of what the market is in your exact area.
Just off of the cuff I would say on your dodge truck ask about $5000 for it, see how close you get and take any offers over $3500, this is of course with me not looking at it.
On the Honda the lack of A/C is a killer around here, that car may be worth about $1000, simply because of the air, if it were not for the a/c, probably would be worth about $3000 to $4000 because that is really good miles, on a really good car.
If you do not care about the A/C, and just want to know what the car is worth for you to buy, I would say about $2000 to $3000, because you can probably add an a/c to it, and that is extremely low miles for that car, and they are EXCELLENT cars.
