Used Cars: New USED car..., civic del sol, forist

Question
Hii. :] thanks for the help..
I want to get my first car, I want a 93' civic del sol,(if thats relevent)
Since its such an older car, not many dealerships have it.  But if they do, they are around 3,500 and 4,000.
I was wondering,  if my mom were to buy the car, (she has okay credit.)  If she would have to put a down payment on the car? Even though its so old?

Answer
Hi Tiffany, thanks for your question. Down payments are requirements from the banks not the dealership. If your mom's credit score is high enough she can buy the car without a down payment. It is best that she apply at a bank herself rather than have the deal do it. The dealer may not give her the best interest rate she can get and they may try to sell her a bunch of insurance she might not need for a loan that small. The dealer can however manipulate the numbers on the purchase agreement to "show" a down payment if your bank requires it. For example if the bank asks for 10% down, have the dealer raise the price by %10 and then show %10 down. The ending price with be same as with no money down.  Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions, Shane Forist
