Used Cars: Lost title for California Vintage, calif dmv, location area

I have a 1980 Triumph that I stored 20 years ago (and hence did not renew
my annual Calif. registration and dropped my auto insurance).  I now live in
New York and want to restore the car. My title is lost and California has no
record of the vehicle because they purge their system after 4 years of non-
registration. (That's what I was told twice by Calif. DMV) Now neither NY or
Calif want to issue a new title.  Help

It's not my main expertise, but your question interest me as there has got to be a solution, could you send me the Vin number and the zip code where you had vehicle registered last to raypaulsen99@yahoo.com  and I will look into the problem further, allow me a few days with an answer.

PS... The issue should be to simply apply for a lost title, but according to you that can't happen after 4 years,,, well something has got to give, and we will find what it takes.
