Used Cars: Used car broke down just down the road, head gasket, car industry

I bought a used car from a dealer, as-is. They had just gotten it as a trade in, so they said they would detail it, they said it would be cleaned and the mechanic would check it out to make sure there was nothing wrong with it, and then I could pick it up. So, I went in after they were done detailing it to pick it up and not even 5 miles down the road it broke down! They towed it back and are now telling me that the head gasket needs replaced! Is there anything I can do since their mechanic should have realized there was a problem with it?

Sorry, you been scammed big time, the dealer knew this vehicle was not road worthy and sold it AS IS,,, means no come back on your end.

I really feel for you having trust in people you do not know, it's a lessen learned the hard way about the car industry.
