Used Cars: us specs for a bmw, california smog, choosing a car

my husband and i are trying to buy a car in Germany. He is in the army. And we are allowed one car shipped home for free. But we are having a hard time choosing a car. we found one we like but don't want to spend the money on it if it is not us specs. Its a BMW 316i its a 1994 coupe. I guess my main question is what are the us specs we need to look for in a car?

I would love to help you but I just am not familiar with any US specs for cars to come here.  Best of my knowledge, that car would be just fine.  I know that I have seen those cars over here, and outside of California Smog regulations, I just can not think of anything that would prevent that car from being allowed over here. I guess what I would do if I were you is to contact the legal department in the state you plan on moving to, and ask them.
