Used Cars: Used Car Purchase, iszuzu, warning signs

Question
My daughter and son-in-law purchased a 1994 Iszuzu Rodeo last week.  Just 5 days later the car will not run.  They have been told they need a new alternator or perhaps more.  Do they have any recourse with the dealer they bought it from?

Answer
The dealer probably had them sign an "As Is" piece of paper or something of that nature. There is not going to be any recourse unfortunately. You can ask the dealer to help you buy the alternator at their cost. Alternators or any other electrical parts do not give alot of warning signs, so I don't think it was anything the dealer did wrong. I would call the Mgr of the store and explain your situation and see if they can help with something they call "Goodwill". All dealers have some kind of account to help with unforeseen problems to keep the customers happy. Nobody wants to have to fix something after they just bought it but an alternator is relatively a simple part, they probably still have a very good car. Hope this helps, remember when talking to a dealer about a problem you want help with, You can catch more bees with honey than vinegar.
