Used Cars: certified used cars, new car dealer, ford chevy

Question
Thank you in advance for your help.
I bought a certified used car from a new car dealer, which turned out to have had body repair/plastic filler which started cracking.  Is it common for certified used cars to have had repairs like this?

Answer
Yes, this is probably way to common.  Most of these "certified" used cars come from Rental Cars or leases, most commonly Rental Cars.  We all know how most treat rental cars, and they are bound to get some bumps and bruises.  The stipulations for a certified car does not really pertain much to body work or repairs, it is more drivetrain, and required maintenances be performed.  I would think that it should not have been in any major wreck, but I would not live and die by that.  I would think if it showed up on carfax, it would not pass certification, but that may not be true. Now I would probably get with a body man to see what the extent of the damage was, and see what he thinks.  Hopefully it was just a cheap patch job, and not a hint of something bigger, which I would want to know.  And if it is something bigger, I would definetly get with the dealership or even the Manufacturer and see what they have to say.  It really depends on what type of certification it is, ie: Honda, Toyota, Ford, Chevy or just an Independents own certification.
