Used Cars: identifying lien holder from VIN, lien, holder

Question
Ray, you recently answered a similar question for another reader--how do you locate a lien holder based solely on VIN#? The vehicle in question is a '96 Chevy Blazer SUV, VIN# 1GNDT13W0T2308736.  It was purchased from Susan Schien Chevrolet in Hoover, AL outside B'ham on 9/13/06.  I believe the loan was originally financed through National Bank of Commerce, but they subsequently sold the loan to another bank and I can't get that info.  Suggestions?

Answer
Hi Terry

Have you contacted your state DMV to see if they have any information on which bank took over your old bank. You can also check with the state office that handles corporations for information...  As laws differ from state to state your question is a sticky one. here is a link on my website that will save you time looking for a DMV location in your area.  http://www.usedcartips.org/DMV.html

I need a little more info, you say you believe was originally financed through NBC, ? - are you the owner now or you considering buying this vehicle ?,  if you find dead ends with the information I have provided, get back to me with some more details, make sure to check the make question private box.
