Used Cars: curbstoning or selling an unsafe car, curbstoning cars, guaranties

Question
I recently bought a used car from someone who turns out to be curbstoning cars.  Within the first month, the brakes went out and I had to fix the problem. Is there any recourse?

Answer
It depends on what state you are in. However there is no warranty on any used vehicle unless it is in writing. Verbal promises or guaranties are no more than hot air. If you can prove that the person you bought it from was "curbing cars"(selling vehicles that are not in their name and not paying sales tax) and you were a victim of their crimes. That would be your only hope for any recourse. Thanks for the question and good luck. Shane
