Used Cars: selling old truck with no title, receipt book, legal transaction

Question
How do I write a Bill of Sale for a 1976 Dodge Ram with no title?  I'm in Alabama and the law requires titles after 1974. We purchased the truck from a friend who owned a reputable used car dealership.  He had purchased it from a government auction--it was a military vehicle.  They didn't have a title and we could never get one because of it being government owned.  Now someone wants to buy it for parts and I want to be sure it is a legal transaction since we don't have a title.  Thanks for your help!!

Answer
Without a title there is no way to make it a legal transaction.  What you can do is buy a legit receipt book, and write a receipt, I would only accept cash on the transaction but most of the time when selling a vehicle and making sure that it is legal is usually, primarily, to protect somebody from NOT getting paid on something.  When you are talking a transaction such as this, just make sure you get the cash up front, and that is all you need to worry about.  Now if they are wanting to pay it out to you, you are taking a big chance, and I would not do it.  Paid in full, cash up front, or no deal.
