Used Cars: selling my car, buick skylark, car leaks

Question
I just sold my 93 Buick Skylark for $600.00 to Alexandria Harris on December 13th. She had 3 different people check it out before she bought it . She signed a Bill of Sale stating the condition As is. We told everyone that the car leaks engine coolant and if you do not keep an eye on it, it will overheat. The next day they called to say the car broke down and they want their money back.Am I responsible if she did not check the engine coolant and drove it till it overheated? It now has some other problems that it never had like the reverse stopped working. It worked perfectly before. I do not know what to do. I don't think I should be responsible for what she did to the car after I sold it to her.

Answer
The answer is "no you are not responsible". Any vehicle sold As Is, is just that. Where did the transaction take place? If it was at your home or place of business than you are not responsible. If however the transaction took place at her house or place of work than she may have a case against you. Make sure to hold on to the Bill of Sale in case this goes any further. The Bill of sale shows that you were selling the vehicle as is with or without any known problems. Also keep in mind that verbal agreements are not binding in court, so even if you said that there wasn't anything wrong with the car, you still sold it "AS IS" and you proof is the Bill of Sale. Hope this helps. Take care, Shane
