Used Cars: unsafe car, machanic, current condition

Question
I LIVE IN INDIANA AND I RECENTLY BOUGHT A 93 CORSICA FOR A USED CAR DEALERSHIP AND I KNEW WHEN I BAUGHT IT THAT IT NEEDED A NEW SPRING FOR THE BACK BY THE TIRE (IM NOT QUITE SURE WHAT THAT SPRING IS CALLED) SO I HAD MY BOYFRIEND TAKE IT TO A MACHANIC TO SEE HOW MUCH THAT IT WOULD COST. THE MACHANIC TOLD US THAT WE NEED TO TAKE THE CAR BACK BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE. HE SAID THAT THE FRAME WAS WELDED BACK TOGETHER ALONG WITH MANY OTHER PROBLEMS. AND ITS JUST NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. HOWEVER WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR I SIGHNED A PAPER THAT SAID THAT I WAS BUYING THE CAR "AS IS" SO I WAS WONDERING IF THERE WAS ANYTHING I COULD DO.

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question. If you signed an "AS IS" buyers guide than you bought the car in its current condition with no warranty. I don't know the law in Indiana but in Michigan when the dealer sells a car AS IS, by law he doesn't have to do anything for you. The best thing you can do is be polite and ask the dealer if they can help in any way. Remember that he doesn't "have" to do anything. I would have a second mechanic look at the car and tell you what is wrong with it. I find it hard to belive that your frame was "welded back together", a 1993 Corsica is a Uni-body car and doesn't have a frame. Good luck to you. Shane
