Used Cars: What Type Of Used Car To Buy, mileage vehicle, toyota camry

Question
I have about $4,000 to $5,000 to buy a used car with. I am also able to just put that money down and make payments on something. So I was wondering should I just buy a used car out right with the money I have or make payments? Also, what type of car should I get? (make & model) I want to get the best car for my money.

Answer
To me if you can get by with no payments that is always the best option and will save you a bunch of money on interest, bank fees and all the BS that goes with financing a vehicle, and probably save quite a bit with the price, most of the time on cash purchases they will negotiate more.  I would try and find an import, honda toyota or nissan.  But it really depends on what your need are ie: gas mileage, 4 door or 2 door, and such. At that price range you are probably going to be getting a higher mileage vehicle so just make sure you check it out all you can, mechanic and carfax.  Just off the cuff, the perfect car would be like a 97 or newer honda accord or toyota camry.
