Used Cars: high milage, cv joints, volvo s60

Question
My son is considering buying a 2002 volvo S60 ~ 102.000 miles for $9,000.  I know they have a reliable reputation ~ but at this point will he be incurring repairs to parts other than engine (trans, etc)?  Can we expect higher repair costs because of the volvo parts & service?  Thank you!

Answer
Yes... and yes... A volvo will cost more to fix because of the brand.. and at about 100000+ is when most cars start to have electronics, transmissions, CV joints, etc go bad... now it could be 105,000 or 125,000 miles when this happens (or it could run to 200,000 with no problems).. but 100000 is about the average point where stuff starts to go bad. For 9000 I would consider something (a little less nice) a with ~60-75000 miles... or if you can find a nice car with 50,000 or under... some of that price tag is because its a volvo, while a honda/toyota will offer similar reliability at a lower cost to repair and purchase.
