Used Cars: used car contract, car contract, second thoughts

 Dear Jay,
  i just signed a used car contract yesterday 10.18.07, i also put 5,000 down. I'm now having second thoughts on purchasing the vehicle. i still have not taken the car from the dealer yet. do i still have enough time to cancel without loosing my deposit? is there a certain law or time frame on this?

Well each state has their own rules and regulations.  In my opinion you should still be able to get out, and get your money back.  The things that normally seal the deal on NOT getting out is your possession of the vehicle, and the title being put in your name on a legit level.  Now this really boils down to who you buy it from, they can probably jerk you around and not let you out, but they should.  What state are you in?  There are a lot of places that you have a couple days to get out, but it really depends on the state and their laws.  It would be nice if the dealer would just let you out, but the chances are slim, therefore you would probably need to contact the Used Car Commission in your state to know your exact rights.
