Used Cars: Camry mileage, safe bet, good shape

Question
QUESTION: Hi Jay,
Since my last question we have decided to up the anty. Ok in regards to a Camry. Mileage wise is it that big of a deal between say a 2005 with 35000 and a 2005 with say
47000. Either of them would be a safe bet I guess only difference being the one with more mileage will be less money. How important is it really?  What in your opinion would be the highest mileage to look at.
Thanks again for your input.

Shelley

ANSWER: In regards to a camry, I think any mileage is acceptable.  Those cars will run a long time.  The only thing to keep in mind about that car is do the timing belt per dealer specifications, which I think is about 105k to 110k miles.  Again, with a good carfax, and if the car is in good shape I would not have problems with any mileage on a camry.

QUESTION: Hello Jay,
Looks like I am getting 2005 Camry 35500 miles with a after market sunroof 15500. Thinking that's a really great deal.
What do you think.

Sorry to ramble
Shelley
ANSWER: CONGRATULATIONS and enjoy your car.  You will be very satisfied with a camry.  Are you buying it from an individual or a car lot?  I dont really have enough information about the car ie: Trim Level and Engine to tell you exactly what would constitute a GREAT deal, but if you like the car, it is worth whatever you are willing to pay for it, and it is in the "general" range of book value.  That is good miles for a 05 model now a day so enjoy your car and I am glad I could be of some assistance.

QUESTION: Hello again,

I am buying from a Toyota certified used dealer and it is an LE, had one owner. I will keep in mind your suggestion about the timing belt.
Thanks and have a great day.
Shelley

Answer
Shelley,
Well buying a Toyota from a Toyota Certified Dealer should give you peace of mind in terms of the car, it should do you well.  And the Salesman should inform you about the timing belt, because it is probably one of the most critical maintenance items with the Toyota lineup.
Enjoy your car and have a Great week!
