Used Cars: Used car purchase...., car title, bill of sale

Question
I have a friend that just purchased a care from a lady. He received the car, title, keys and stuff. He had the car brought to his house and everything. A week later the lady is emailing him and stuff saying she doesn't have payment for the car and she is going to report the car stolen to the police. What is going to happen in this situation? Will he be about to keep the car since he paid her and she signed over the title and everything to him?

Answer
If she signed off the title at the agreed amount, and neither of you have any documentation on the agreed amount or signed forms (bill of sale) - if he did pay her for it, even if she takes him to court, he should be fine... if the title is in his name, she has no right to report it stolen.. the car belongs to your friend now, sounds like the lady is trying to make a few extra bucks... I wouldn't worry too much about it.. just make sure he has documentation in the car at all times, in case it is reported stolen, he can prove he owns the vehicle... then there wont be a problem.. and in all actuality he could sue her for the harassment... i'm not recommending that, just stating it can be done.  Just make sure he keeps the registration (maybe even the title) in the car... with his name on it - and he shouldn't need to worry.
