Trucking: Legal trucks

Question
Ca requires tractor-trailer comb to be 65' long.
Truck manufactures tell me they cannot build a tractor to be able to meet the 65' length law pulling a 53' trailer...

Has there been any discussion on this...

Thank you

Answer
I am not sure of your exact question but will answer in two ways.

1.  As far as a regulatory change....that would be California specific and I have enough trouble keeping up with the USDOT regs that I can't maintain the same level of knowledge on state regulations.

2.   As far as equipment changes from a manufacturers point of view to achieve this 65 ft number...I am not aware of them doing this.  If you stay on the National Network , you can exceed the 65 ft mark but that would be a significant restriction to get off of the main roads and go anywhere else.
