Trucking: unloading truckloads, trucking company, touch freight

Question
Is the the driver of a truck responsible to get the product to the tail of the truck? This is a boxed load of goods not on pallets that is being delivered by the shippers trucking company of choice.

Answer
Greg, it depends on the level of service the shipper contracted for.
LTL and Truckload have different general practices.
A truckload contract typically includes the driver positioning the freight at the tailgate with the receiver responsible to unload to their dock.  Truckload drivers like so-called "no=touch" freight that is palletized and completely and quickly unloaded by the receiver.  There are a variety reasons the shipper may choose not to palletize their shipments and the carrier will generally charge more or an added accessorial charge to handle the freight.  Check with your shipper.  If it's a brokered load there may be multiple parties involved.  Hope this helps.
