Trucking: Broking my own loads as an owner-operater, owner operator trucking, becoming an owner operator

Question
First, "may God be with you and keep you all the time". Hello, its a pleasure to stumble on this question and answer sight.
I'm about to get into the owner-operator industry with my own truck and trailer, after driving right at five years. How difficult is it to broke my own loads and make good money doing it? Also is it a good time to do just that?

Answer
I appreciate your enthusiasm to becoming an owner-operator and broker your own loads.  There are websites that you can review to further educate yourself.  My only advise is to think long and hard before becoming an owner-operator.  We are mired in the worst recession since the 1930's and shows no sign of ending anytime soon! In addition to that, there is more drivers then there is freight.  When Americans don't spend money on products, that has a direct impact on trucking!
There are brokers that can assist you in locating loads at a fee. The internet can be a great re-
source.  I would lease on with a major, reputable carrier, like Werner or Schneider, before going out on your own.  As you probably know, you are usually responsible for your fuel, permits, insurance and of course, your monthly truck payments. Lots of owner-operators have gone out of business because of the weak economy and high diesel prices!  Talk to other owner-operators or an owner-operator trucking company, to get guidance. Good luck to you Darrell and if you have any follow-up questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
