Trucking: parking truck, hinds county ms, car traffic

Question
hi..i have a relative moving to hinds county, ms., soon. he is an owner/operator and needs of course to park his semi in a secured area. with that in mind, how do you go about finding secured parking for a semi? thank you!!

Answer
Thats a great question!  I used to park my rig when I lived in Philadelphia, PA at the local Walmart.  I called the manager and he was cooperative.  Any large store that has ample parking, is a good place to park as long as you get their permission.  They may have you park behind the store and away from car traffic and such.  They may even want you not to idle your truck while your away or even in the truck.  It just depends on who you ask. In Mississippi, I would think that most people would be very willing to allow a trucker to park his rig. I would also contact the local Police Dept and see if they know a good place as well.  Another suggestion, would be to find other truckers in Hinds County and ask where they park their rigs.  If there are any sizeable truckstops around, it would also be worth his time to contact the manager at the truckstop and ask permission if he could park his rig their.  Another great place, in terms of security, is assuming the company he is leased to, has a terminal or drop yard nearby, he could leave his truck at either location, and feel secure. I hope this helps you James, but please stress to him not to just park anywhere, thinking its ok-you don't want to get a ticket or worse.  Get permission first and then you can enjoy your time off with the family!
