Trucking: dulley law of weight, trucking profession, werner schneider

Question
i heard if you drive a 1 ton dually and haul a trailer with a combined weight over 10000 pounds empty you have to have a physical card from dot. Is this true

Answer
Thankyou Thomas for your question.  Unfortunately, in all the years I've been involved in the trucking profession, I've never heard of the dulley law of weight. I am not aware of any exceptions in requiring drivers with a commercial drivers license, not to have on their possession, a valid medical card.  I always had to have a current physical card or I couldn't operate any heavy trucks.  If this truck is for agricultural purposes, where your confined to off roads, in rural areas, you may not need a physical card, especially if both truck and trailer are under 10000 lbs. Depending where you live, I would contact a truckdriving school or call DOT or any reputable trucking company like Werner, Schneider or JB Hunt!
