Trucking: dry van or reefer, target market, dry van freight

Question
im getiing into buying my own truck and trailer, and i was planning on buying a 53' dry van, so that i wont hassle with the maintanance on the reefer engine, just worry about the truck. i have a couple of friends who say that i should go for a reefer cause it pays better, is that true? i can still make good money hauling dry freight, right?

Answer
Francisco, it all comes down to having the right equipment for your target market.  Some people like to specialize in Reefer Freight while others prefer the simplicity of dry van freight.  Reefer freight pays a little better because it costs you more to operate, plus you risk product damage if the unit fails. If you decide on a dry van keep weight in mind for both tractor and trailer.  The more you can legally scale the more opportunities there are.  For example loads like paper or bottled water will go to the carriers that can handle that extra pallet of freight. Best of luck whatever you decide.
