Trucking: starting new transportation business, ltl loads, two different things

Question
hi jim i just started a new ltl company and want to utilize 24ft. box trucks van or reefer. i would like to know if i will be initially be leasing a truck through ryder and some companies require the contractor to have their own authority how is that possible since getting your own authority or mc number is actually to the vehicle and not the individual. also i would like to find out what steps i would need to take on securing contracts for ltl loads primarily 10,000lbs. or less thanks quincy

Answer
Quincy, your operating authority is for your company and it doesn't matter if you own, lease or rent your trucks.  Check the FMCSA website for details:

Don't confuse operating authority with licensing for your trucks; two different things.
