Trucking: Do I need to stop at the scale with a 16,000 gvw truck, ford f800, ifta fuel tax

Question
Hi - I recently bought a Ford F800 service truck in Phoenix which I want to drive back to Kansas. I bought a Kansas apportioned tag for it so I assume it is a commercial vehicle now. It weighs less that 9000# empty and I will not have anything but the bare truck. Do I need fuel permits and do I have to stop at the scales? I will travel through Arizona,New Mexico and Oklahoma. There is no scale where I come up through the corner of Texas. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Answer
If the truck is rated for or exceeds 10,000 lbs you will need a us dot number.  A dot number is only needed if you are a private carrier if you are a for hire carrier you will also need a mc number(operating authority) from the FMCSA You will not be subject to the IFTA fuel tax sticker if you stay under 26,000 GVW. You will need to have a log book and stop at scales but more than likely they will just wave you through.  Please visit my web page at www.dotnumber.net for more info.
