Trucking: ICC regulation, motor carrier safety, interstate commerce commission

Question
What is the term "ICC" on "ICC regulations" stand for?  Thank you.

Answer
Joe, ICC stands for Interstate Commerce Commission which was originally created by congress in 1887 to regulate the railroads.  The Motor Carrier Act of 1935 added trucking to the regulations.
The ICC Termination Act of 1995 abolished the agency.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) was established as a separate administration within the U.S. Department of Transportation on January 1, 2000, pursuant to the Motor Carrier Safety Improvement Act of 1999.
The term ICC is still used by industry veterans and carriers who were around and first obtained their operating authority under the old ICC.
