Trucking: Commercial Vehicle, cdl license, god bless israel

Question
In order for a vehicle to be classified as commercial vehicle, does it have to be involved with commerce in some way?

For example: Suppose you own a 45 foot speedboat that requires a class 8 semi-truck to transport it to and from the lake. The boat is strictly used for pleasure, and is in no way connected with business or making money. This would clearly be completely non-business and non-commerce related, so would it be legal to drive the semi tractor without a CDL license and IFTA/IRP registration?

Answer
Hi Tim,

As long as it's for personal use, the truck is not considered to be a CMV. You could buy a Peterbuilt, put a regular tag on it and drive it as a personal vehicle just like a car. You're thinking right, as long as you tell law enforcement it's for please only, you won't have a problem. If the boat is wide, you still have to run wide load signs.

I hope this answers your question.
God Bless, Israel
