Trucking: Safety Audit, drug and alcohol test, driver qualifications

Question
Hello, J.P. Long

My fiance' and I started a small trucking company in Columbus, Ohio.  I anticipate that my safety audit can be any day...

Driver Qualifications; all drivers had drug test, I contacted previous employers, driving records, applications...

Driver Duty Status; the drivers turn there log books in once a week to me...what is it that I need to do with them?

Vehicle Maintenance; how often do they need inspections on their trucks?

Accident Register; I purchased one but thank God I have not had to use them...

Controlled substances; all drivers have had drug and alcohol test and are in a random drug pool.

Is there anything you can think of that I need to be concerned about or that you think I need to address prior to the audit?

Answer
Hi Eboni, Seems you have made a good start on setting up your records. 1. Drivers - You should have a list of minimum requirements (Insurance may provide) for example min age limit, number of violations, etc. 2. Drivers Daily Logs: Should be kept for 6 months in file after checking for possible violations. 3. Veh. Maintenance: Check with you truck dealer for recommendation for service. ( Most use 3500 miles or 90 days ) Good Luck  visit my web site: www.longdataser.com  J P Long
