Trucking: pricing issues, way freight, trucking industry

Question
I am new to the trucking industry and have been an owner operator for only a short time.  I have recently been asked to come up with a proposal/price I would charge for moving a full 53' trailer from Charlotte, N.C. to Oakland Ca. also a half full trailer from the same location to location.  The freight would be moved by team drivers for quick delivery.  It is one way freight, meaning that I would have to find freight coming back.  I am unsure of how to calculate and price this.  Can you please help.

Answer
Clayton, the "market" rate for this lane is about $1.24/mile +.32/mile fsc.
There is currently a shortage of trucks on the West coast so you can probably find a decent paying load Eastbound but it would be best to line that up in advance.  Unless you have contacts on the West coast or know a receiver who gets freight from the West coast,  you will probably have to go through a broker or load board to find the return move.  Good luck.  Jim.
