Trucking: fuel tax reporting, fuel tax, trip reports

Question
we own our own truck, and leased to company that files our quarterly fuel taxes for us.  They sent a letter and said if we file our own quarterly fuel taxes that $l00 can be saved on the IFTA and permits that they take out in weekly deductions starting in Dec.(They normally charge $2l0). Should I consider this. Is it hard to do. We have an Illinois tag.

Answer
Hi Linda, First, the company is charging you too much. What they do is combine your miles and fuel with all the other trucks and report the aveage. My company is Long Data Service and I prepare and file Fuel Tax Report for 12 individuals and small companies each quarter. My fee is reasonable and I can furnish the trip reports for the mileage per state. I print the Report on the State Form and you only have to sign and mail it with check if owe any taxes.   E mail me if interested. JLong2500@aol.com  J P Long Web Site: www.longdataser.com
