Trucking: advice, missouri department of transportation, bob stephens

Question
I am a builder in Missouri Looking for a change.  I have decided to do auto transport.  What I would like to know is dot regulations.  I will be using a 03 f-350 dually and a 48' 3 car fifth wheel.  Do I need a class A cdl for that?  I have already built up enough cliental to run two trucks.  I have already registered my truck as commercial and handling all the insurance stuff.  Also for my one ton do I need a dot number.  Any advice you can give is great.  Thank you for your time.                           Todd

Answer
Hi Todd.

You'll need a Class B CDL and a DOT/MC number and fuel stickers for every state you go in.  Contact the Missouri Department of Transportation for help.  Sites like www.dotauthority.com can help too.

Even though your truck may be insured commercial, make sure you have cargo insurance under your trucking company DOT#.  You don't want to have to pay for that new Mercedes if something bad happens!

Good luck!
