Trucking: logging fuel?, different time zone, jj keller

Question
QUESTION: exactly how much time do you have before and after fueling before it becomes a violation on dot regulations

ANSWER: Hi Lisa, There is no set time for any action of the driver in the DOT Regulations. Drivers are to show actual time of their actions, BUT, we know not all do this. I tell drivers to show between 15 minutes and 1 hour, depending on how much fuel is pumped.  Hope this helps.  J P Long, website: longdataser.com

QUESTION: THIS ISNT EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. HERE'S WHAT I MENT WE USE A JJ KELLER TO ENTER LOGS I NEED TO KNOW IF A DRIVER LOGS THAT THEY FUELED AT 1:OOPM BUT THEIR CARD THAT THEY USED STATED 2:00PM IN REALITY THAT ALL PUMPS CANT BE CORRECT ON ALL THE TIMES. WHAT IS THE TIME THAT DOT ALLOWS FOR THE GAP. WOULD IT BE THIRTY MINUTES OR AND HOUR ON EACH SIDE OF THE OR IS THERE A WINDOW

Answer
Lisa, Sorry I did not fully understand. Most DOT Audit Agents tell me that the time should be within 30 minutes and the mileage with 30 miles to match up log with a timed stop such as fuel.  Hope this helps.  Remember also that the log is done on the local time zone and the time on the tickets on the road may be in a different time zone.  Good luck  J P Long
