Trucking: Recruiting Help!, truck driving schools, record dmv

Question
Hello,

My husband and I starting a trucking company and due to the fact we are still employed with the Navy, we decided to hire a driver.  Our dilemma is we do not know what to look for in quality drivers.  We know they need CDLs to operate the truck but how do we go about finding good quality drivers?  What are some of the things we need to look out for from prospective candidates?  Do you recommend us going to the truck driving schools and recruiting graduates?  I know we need to have them perform drug test but where do we get information for drug testing?  Do we need to conduct background checks? etc.  As you can see we need help.  What should we do?

Answer
Hi Shannon,
The application for a driver requires 10 years of previous employment. at least 3 years driving record (DMV REVORD) AND 3 years of drug testing history from former employers.
Most insurance companies require a driver with 3 or more years experience before they will insure them.
I can help you with the drug testing program. e mail me your address and i can give you information on that.
Driving school graduates should ride with an experienced driver for 3 - 5 weeks over the road and most insurance companies will not let you hire them for the lack of experience..  Recruiting is sometimes a problem. You can run an ad in local paper and may get results.  Good Luck
