Trucking: Starting a Trucking Company, bob stephens, trucking company

Question
Hi Bob,

It's Shannon again.  How are you?  I am beginning to feel overwhelmed with the choices out there for insurance holders.  I took your advice and reviewed the OOIDA website and it seems I have to become a member to use their coverage.  Is that true?  Is so, I am trying to eliminate as much overhead I possibly can and could you suggest other insurance companies that is really good for truckers?

Answer
Hi Shannon.

Try not to get overwhelmed.  Starting out in this business is tough!  Take it one step at a time and you'll be fine.  It does seem like you have to jump through 1000 hoops.  Tackle one area, such as insurance, then move to another.

Here are some good insurance companies...

www.insuremyrig.com
www.truckinsure.com
www.cooperinsurance.org
www.gwccnet.com
www.sentry.com

OOIDA is a great organization and has been helping owner-operators for a long time.  Their the biggest voice we have in Washington, I think.  It should be an organization that you join eventually too.  If you don't want to join now, contact one of the companies above.

If you have any other problems, feel free to contact me.  Remember, when you get overwhelmed, think of YOUR truck rolling down the road making money!  That always makes me happy!  :)

Take care.
