Trucking: single vs dual rear end wheel, ford f250 diesel, lowboy trailer

Question
I have a ford f250 diesel single rear wheel truck.  I am in the market for a two car trailer.  I've read your answers about the lowboy vs wedge trailers   I was told that because my truck is not a dually, I should purchase a lowboy trailer so the weight of the trailer and cars would be on the entire truck.  As opposed to having the wedge, where a good portion of the weight would be on my rear axle.  Does it make a difference, will it pose a problem with my truck?  Your thoughts please.

Answer
Hi Tiffany.

The problem is, most lowboys are heavier than wedge trailers and that's an issue with a single axle.  Whether you have a wedge, lowboy or whatever, the weight will be distributed the same with a fifth wheel.  The only difference is your center of gravity.  It will be higher with a wedge, and a dually would be better in this situation.

If your not using a fifth wheel, it's another ball game.  Keep it simple and get a trailer like this one...

If it was me, I'd buy a dually.  More stability, towing power and safer in my book.

Good luck!
