Trucking: Car hauling business, bob stephens, mc number

Question
Looking to start a car hauling business. This is what I'm thinking and if you know what i will all need as for permits to haul throughout us.  A F450 with a 2 car enclosed trailer. Focusing on high end cars and people relocating and odds and ends to get going. All info on what i need would be great. Working on business plan and website now but still need a lot of help. Thanks for time

Answer
Hi Matt.

First, I tell everyone to contact your state's Department of Transportation.  They will help you with everything you'll need.  Your probably looking at DOT/MC number, IFTA tax sticker, base plates, etc.  You can also go to sites like www.dotauthority.com and they can help you with all of that (except the plates).  You'll have to get your plates down at the DMV.

That's the easy part.  One of my thoughts, though, is that you might want to look into something bigger than a two car carrier.  Just a suggestion.  A new F450 can tow 24,000 pounds.  That's a lot of cars!  I think once you start looking at your business plan, you find that a three or four car hauler might be in order.  Again, just a suggestion.

Good luck!
