Trucking: Difference Between Dispatcher and Broker, surety bond, freight broker

Question
Hi Jim, Could you explain the difference between a work at home dispatcher that services an owner operator as a dispatcher for a percentage or flat fee and that of a freight broker?

Answer
Jeffrey, i have never heard of a work at home dispatcher that services an owner operator.  Is someone offering this deal?  What is involved?  Do you have to find loads for the OO?
A Freight Broker can work from home or an office.  Brokers require a license from FMCSA and a surety bond.  The broker finds the loads and the licensed carriers with operating authority to handle them.  The broker earns his commission on the spread or markup between what the carrier charges him and what he charges the shipper.  It's a regulated business.  The first deal sounds like an employment offer but not one I have ever heard of.
Jim.
