Trucking: Operating costs, luck jim, fuel prices

Dear Jim,

I am thinking of buying my own truck and I was wondering if you could outline some of the costs that go into the operation.  I understand with the fluctuating and unpredictable fuel prices, it might be hard to pin down.  But any numbers you could give me would be a huge help.  Also, are there any secrets to finding good loads??  Thanks for your help.

This should give you a good start on costs.
It should be easy to find loads, it's just a question of how flexable you are.  Check out the various loadboads and brokers on the web.
