Trucking: Truck Recruiter/Broker Jobs, recruiter training, time recruiters

Question
Hello Jim,
I'm a 51 y.o., O.T.R. trucker w. 4.5 yrs. exp. Getting kind of tired of being gone for periods. I know there are schools that train you to be a broker and I was also looking at being a driver recruiter from my home. I love the trucking industry and the down to earth people in it. I searched for "truck driver recruiter training" online but the sites only listed existing recruiters hiring drivers..no info about training to become one.
Would you have any info. about websites or companies that offer training to become a truck driver recruiter from their own home? Would also be interested in any other trucking related occupations one could start-up from home.

Thank you very much.

Answer
Mike, I have seen ads for broker training schools but don't have any knowlege of how good they are.  My impression is that you have to be a good salesman to make it as a broker.
Regarding driver recruiting, it sounds good in light of th eshortage of qualified drivers but I don't know about dioing it as an independant.  I think most full time recruiters work as an employee of the company they recruit for and I have a feeling they spend as much time on the road and in truck stops as an otr driver would.
The other natural progression for drivers leaving the road is to get into dispatch.  You could always try the company you drive for now to see if they will train you.  Here is a website that has a question and answer column that might be a good source for you to search,

Sorry I couldn't be more help.  Best of luck, JIM
